Title: Protection, Gender and Inclusion Officer Location: Athens, Greece
Type of Contract: Fixed Term till March 2018 with possibility of Extension. First Contract is short-term for Probation period.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization with 190 member National Societies. The position is located in the Athens to provide technical support regarding protection measures in all areas of the operation on behalf of the IFRC, in collaboration with the Hellenic Red Cross and the ICRC, and to conduct trainings of Red Cross staff and volunteers.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the IFRC Programme Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the Hellenic Red Cross (HRC) and IFRC staff to ensure that protection considerations are in place in all areas of the operation and that needed operational tools are developed or refined to address the protection needs of all vulnerable people in Greece.
The Protection officer is to actively support the work of the Red Cross Working Group on Protection to ensure that it achieves the agreed outcomes and the objectives of ensuring a coordinated, coherent and effective response by the RC to the protection needs of vulnerable people in Greece.

  • Support the HRC on Movement Coordination
  • Support the HRC and the other RC actors on external co-ordination
  • Technical support and capacity building




• Essential: Relevant university degree or equivalent qualification
• Preferred: Basic Delegates Training Course or IMPACT. FACT, ERU, RDRT training or equivalent knowledge

Work Experience:

• Essential: Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in the field of protection, human rights issues or refugee law
• Essential: Field experience
• Essential: Experience of working in Greece, preferably in the field of migration
• Preferred: Minimum of 2 years international work experience e.g. with an International Organisation, international non-governmental organization, NGO and/or government development agency


Knowledge and Skills:


• Knowledge of Greek migration system (legislation, actors and asylum procedures)
• Understanding of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including the mandate of each component of the Movement and the Fundamental Principles
• Proven Training Skills
• Excellent cooperation skills
• Ability to work well independently
• Strong analytical and reporting skills
• Ability to work well in a multicultural team
• Demonstrated accountability
• Language: Fluently spoken and written English and Greek


• Essential: Fluently spoken and written English and Greek
• Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic)
• Other languages: Farsi, Kurdish
